Looking at the immense waste within the global textile industry and the impact it has in Berlin, this project explores ways to extend the life of textile garments and materials when they have been deemed unwearable.
The project used discarded wool fleece, sourced from the meat industry and donated here in Berlin. ‘Tailoring through Felt’ combines the donated wool with unwanted textiles at their supposed ‘end of life’ stage. Both needle and wet felting was used as a ‘glue’ to create a new reinforced fabric from these materials.
The intention of ‘Tailoring through Felt’ is to encourage people to continue the life-span and redefine the purpose of their old or damaged clothing (and of textiles in general), and to utilise an abundant material from and in their area.
