“Made from Berlin” is a research project that combines a healthy shoe with local organic materials: Barefoot shoes support the foot muscles—and thus overall posture—thanks to a thin sole with no height difference, a wide toe box, and the absence of cushioning.
Because children’s feet grow so quickly, a pair of children’s shoes is worn for an average of only three months. So why not make a shoe from Berlin-sourced materials that can be returned to nature as is?
The “Made from Berlin” children’s shoe is made from local materials such as mushroom leather and cattail, as well as wool from a sheep farm in Tegel. However, the necessary infrastructure for using these materials is lacking.
Even though my final product represents a stage of research, my design focus was on a natural and organic look.
