‘Made from Berlin‘ is a research project that combines healthy footwear with local organic materials.
Due to the rapid growth of children’s feet, a pair of children’s shoes is worn for an average of just three months. Barefoot shoes support the foot muscles—and thus overall posture—thanks to their thin, level sole, wide toe box and lack of cushioning. So why not produce a barefoot shoe for children using Berlin-sourced materials, a shoe that can be returned to nature as such?
The resulting shoe is made from local materials such as mushroom leather and cattail, as well as wool from a sheep farm in Tegel. As the necessary infrastructure for using these materials on a larger scale is lacking, this product represents the current state of research. The design focus was on a natural and organic look.
