Traditional glassmaking meets porcelain manufacturing – alongside the greenlab semester project RE:LOKAL, students from two universities explored local glass craftsmanship and the role of local resources. The results of the workshops will be exhibited at the CURRENTS design festival on the premises of the Royal Porcelain Manufactory in Berlin.
Handcrafted glass meets porcelain manufacture. Students from the HBK Saar and the Weißensee Academy of Art Berlin came together in the summer of 2026 at the Centre International d’Art Verrier (CIAV) in Meisenthal, Lorraine (FR), for a joint workshop. Working with the local glassmakers, they experimentally explored the potential of traditional artisanal glassmaking and its integration into the local culture of the Pays de Bitche region. The resulting glass objects are on display in the historic ring kiln hall of the Royal Porcelain Manufactory Berlin.
