“Put your heart and your soul into your work, without losing your mind,” van Gogh!
The goal of this project is to blur the boundary between work and play. Contrasts define both its appearance and function. Binary in its material and use, the piece integrates sound-absorbing materials to create furniture that unpretentiously communicates its dual role: a workstation for efficient work and a comfortable chair for brainstorming.
Recycled polyurethane—a foam typically hidden within a structure—was used, yet here it fundamentally shapes both the design and handling of the piece. The result is a strong material aesthetic. The material is sensitive to point loads, while simultaneously contributing to improved room acoustics.
The project also aims to encourage responsible use of the furniture. The knowledge that many others have worked, been inspired, and will continue to follow contributes to a shared awareness of the larger community within the coworking space.
