This project focuses on the design of a series of seating furniture for the lounge area of the inclusive co-working space Tüchtig. The primary focus is the interplay of different shapes and dimensions—thereby addressing the theme of inclusion.
The design resulted in five unconventional models—high and low, narrow and wide, open and more enclosed. Everyone can choose the seating option they prefer. Geometric forms define the overall impression.
The models were created at a scale of 1:7.5, and one of them was also realized in full size using the intended materials. The constructed furniture frame is made from steel tubes, closely reflecting the drawn design on paper. Seat and storage surfaces are formed from tightly stretched ropes.
The frame and the stretched ropes convey a certain transparency and lightness. Color and form are playful, intended to create a relaxed and lively impression. The framework and linear tensioning are complemented by more voluminous cushions. For these, textile tubing is dyed, filled, and arranged in oversized knots. Both the color and the organic appearance provide a contrast to the frame.
The goal of the project is to create a space that invites social interaction while also offering the opportunity to take a private break, work quietly with a laptop, or enjoy reading away from the desk. Since many different people with varying needs and preferences will use this space, a whole series of furniture pieces is being developed to reflect this diversity. Ideally, as many people as possible should be able to find a model that suits them.
