How can a translucent wall contribute to flexible interior design in prefabricated buildings?

The prefabricated buildings of the GDR followed a standardised design that reflected different lifestyles in floor plan solutions. This systematisation enabled rapid construction at reduced costs. But standardisation also imposed restrictions.

Flexible forms of use could not be taken into account in industrial housing construction. How can a movable, translucent partition wall enable floor plan variations? The wall, which can be pushed, rotated or folded, is like a membrane: light shines through it and movement behind it is perceived as a pixel image. This creates spaces that can be dynamically adapted to situations throughout the day or changing needs throughout life.
