Given our current consumption of disposable cups and a recycling rate of less than 1%, it is high time to develop a cup that poses no problems even without our recycling system. The idea is a biodegradable cup that does not require a plastic lid.
The cup is made from hemp fiber paper, which is more resource-efficient than conventional wood fiber paper. To make it temporarily water-resistant for the duration of drinking, it is coated on the inside with a bioplastic made from cornstarch and vinegar, which only begins to dissolve after 40 minutes. The cup is glued together using an adhesive made from potato starch. To save material and avoid the use of plastic, the cup does not require a separate lid; it is simply closed by folding, creating an opening for drinking.
